❋ About Us

❋ our story

Sometimes the best things in life come when you stop trying to force outcomes or when you finally move through the ache of your past. It turns out the present moment is full of life and ease if you let it- and this is exactly how two close friends and therapists realized they could push themselves out of their comfort zones and open a space of somatic healing.

Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Getting degrees for second careers, taking chances on somatic trainings we believe are more than just for our clients but are a way of life for us too, and learning the joy of doing it all together- Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making a space for thoughtful, lasting therapeutic work.

❋ our space

We believe in the power and brilliance of the human body. For too long, we as humans have forgotten we live in bodies and that the integration of the mind, body, and spirit is essential to our thriving. Using a modality called Somatic Experiencing, we track, notice, and slow down what is happening in the present moment to work through in safety what did not get a chance to be tended to in the past.

how to get started

Therapy can be a messy, playful, and sacred journey within in order to discover truths about yourself. This is a space for you to explore all parts of yourself and your story and what your nervous system has held for potentially a life time. While you'll surely run into places of heartbreak, grief, and trauma, you might be surprised to find out there’s so much more goodness within you than you could have ever realized alone.

Not to mention, once we start spending time in your story, you will find that you make so much sense. You will get to see how your nervous system created incredibly wise ways for you to stay safe and protected when you were younger, and together we will work on getting those parts care so you can show up in ways that feel better for you today. If this sounds like where you are at in your own life journey, it might be time to get curious and begin somatic therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Intown Somatics offers private pay which means you will pay for each therapy session yourself. We love to support our clients in getting therapy within their budget and do provide superbills as an Out of Network (OON) service for their insurance to then reimburse them personally. These superbills are automatically sent out at the end of each month, but can be provided sooner upon request. Your insurance may or may not cover OON services, so it is important to check with them before getting started if you are wanting to get reimbursed. So please note, we do not interact with insurance directly at this time. You can also check with your therapist, as all IS therapists usually see about 15% of their caseload on a sliding scale in order to make therapy more accessible for those in financial need. It is one of our values here at Intown Somatics to work with you to make therapy as affordable as possible, also holding the balance that this is our livelihood. You can ask ahead if either therapist has any sliding scale spots available on their caseload at this time.

What are your rates?

Intown Somatic therapists see clients at different rates depending on the therapy services provided (modality-based) as well as level of training. Each therapist has a full fee rate that we assess every year related to experience and best business practices, as well as compared to market value of what is being offered in the local area. Couples therapy and family therapy has an increased cost per session depending on the clinician.

Do I need a diagnosis?

Yes and no- our therapists can help explore and support you in a clinical diagnosis if it feels helpful in making more sense of what you have been experiencing. We will also support and affirming a diagnosis that you can have on your superbill if you’re wanting to submit that to your insurance. Some clients prefer to have no diagnosis on file, and you are not required to have one on file in order to receive somatic therapeutic support here at Intown Somatics.

What is an individual therapy session like?

It really depends where you are at in the process! An “Intake” session at the beginning will be focused on gathering more information on where you’ve been (your history) and where you want to go (your goals), and your therapist will help assess any other needs from a clinical prospective. After that, you start getting into a groove of learning each other (therapy is about the relationship!) while also learning more about how to notice your body, your protective patterns, and how your nervous system stored emotions and extra energy. These sessions could include skills, psycho-education, and most likely hearing your therapist ask, “So where do you notice that in your body?” For more specific information on Somatic Experiencing or Internal Family Systems work, click here.

Do you offer virtual therapy options?

Yes! Both therapist offer in person and virtual sessions. Depending on the clinician’s availability or your preference, virtual therapy could be a great fit for you. Somatic work can definitely be practiced virtually, although we do find it helpful for some clients to meet in person for the first few sessions if possible. However, some clients meet with their therapist virtually the entire time and do lovely work together. Everyone’s body and nervous system are different! You and your therapist can determine together what would be the best fit for you.

Where are you located?

Intown Somatics is located in the beautiful Atlanta neighborhood of Inman Park. Right off of N Highland Ave NE, we are upstairs above the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop and across the street from Atlanta classics, Sotto Sotto and BeetleCat. Access to the building is by appointment only.

What do I do if I need to cancel or change my appointment?

Great question! We have a 48-hour cancellation and rescheduling policy, so we need to know outside of that time frame about any changes to your session, or we will have to charge full fee. This policy includes day of sickness or last minute work meetings that come up! Of course if there is an emergency the day of your session, please let your therapist know (after you are safe and settled!), and we will just need a doctor’s note, etc. More information is listed in the practice policies found on the Client Portal.
